POA Interviewer Training

Description: This training, which has been developed by the Council on Quality and Leadership, requires a 4-day commitment. The class is scheduled for Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday beginning at 8:30am each morning and will require some evening hours on the first 2 days.
Comments: The training will teach associates about a tool for evaluating personal quality of life and the degree to which organizations can individualize support to facilitate outcomes. Personal Outcome Measures focus on the choices people have in their lives. Associates will learn and conduct actual interviews with the people we support as well as follow-up interviews with the support circle of that individual.

CPR / AED / Standard First Aid

Description: This training provides the student with knowledge and skills necessary for them to identify and prevent potentially hazardous conditions and give appropriate care regardless of the type of emergency. These emergencies include but are not limited to Checking an ill or injured person; breathing emergencies and conscious choking; cardiac emergencies; CPR and unconscious choking; soft tissue injuries; injuries to muscles, bones and joints; and heat- and cold-related emergencies. Policy 16 will be reviewed as well as knowledge and skills in emergency procedures and CPR.
Comments: This class must be renewed annually to maintain certification. Required of direct service associates within six months of hire. If not required for your job position, the participant is responsible to pay the fee charged to the agency.

Initial Investigation

Description: Initial Investigation Training. For associates identified by their Team Leader. Training in the requirements of becoming an initial investigator for 147 incident reports. Responsibility includes to ensure the safety of the people we serve has been completed and documented according to 624 regulation.

Final Investigation Training

Description: This training is for associates identified by their Team Leader and who have completed Initial Investigator Training. This training is required to become a final investigator for 147 incidents. Responsibilities would be to interview people, review documents, and identify corrective actions to ensure the safety of the people we serve by making recommendations through the final investigation report to the Special Review Committee.
Comments: For all final investigators, please attend one of these two available trainings. This is a review of expectations of final investigators. We will be reviewing the tools a final investigator uses and reviewing how to put the final investigation document together. This will be an opportunity to network with other investigators and share what works and what does not. This will be especially valuable if you have not been assigned an investigation in a while.

Direct Support Professional Training

Description: This two-day training is to be taken within 90 days of hire as a Direct Support Associate. It includes a holistic view of the Direct Support Associate's work surrounding the areas of responsibility and accountability, communication and documentation, and health and well-being. Strengthening sensitivity skills as well as skills allowing the work to be viewed as a whole and not just as individual tasks needing to be accomplished is also emphasized throughout the training.

Planning for Services with Personal Outcome Assessment (POA)

Description: The Personal Outcome Measures are a powerful tool for evaluating personal quality of life and the degree to which organizations individualize supports to facilitate outcomes. People define outcomes for themselves. The outcomes are non-prescriptive; they have no norms. Each person is a sample of one. The meaning and definition of personal outcome items will vary from person to person. Through the personal outcome assessment tool and the associates trained in its use, information is gathered about outcomes in the factors My Self, My Work, and My Dreams. These factors guide person directed planning. Our responsibility as an organization is to support people in developing a person-directed plan and to learn about the person's focus.

This training will go into more detail about the specifics of those responsibilities.

Defensive Driving, NTSI

Description: National Traffic Safety Institute Defensive Driving course is a Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP) which offers education for safe driving. In addition, if you complete a PIRP course approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles you may receive: ? A reduction of up to four (4) points on your driving record ? A minimum of 10% reduction in auto liability, no-fault and collision insurance premiums each year for three years, if you are the principle operator of a vehicle. You may take the course as often as you wish, but you may take it only every three years for insurance reduction benefits, and every eighteen months for point reduction.
Comments: If you are currently unable to drive an agency vehicle because of points on your license, you will be charged the $12 registration fee per Agency policy. ? associates who are not required to drive agency vehicles will be charged the $12 registration fee. Open to family members or friends if space is available. They will be charged $20 and is expected to be paid at the time of the class. ? Please bring your driver?s license to the class.

CPR / AED / Standard First Aid

Description: Instructs participants on the American Red Cross standard first aid and cardiac pulmonary resuscitation course. Required of all direct service associates within three months of hire. This class must be renewed every three years to maintain certification.
Comments: If not required for your job position, the participant is required to pay the American Red Cross Fee charged to the agency. Kneeling expected; dress comfortably.
