Residential Programs

The Arc Allegany-Steuben Residential Programs

The Arc Allegany-Steuben has 23 residential homes located throughout Allegany and Steuben Counties. Our residences offer a variety of options for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities 18 years old and above. Each house is staffed 24 hours a day by associates trained in supporting the physical and emotional needs of each person. Associates teach and assist with life skills such as cooking, household, health and wellness, recreational and financial management. People who live in our residences are encouraged and supported in being active participants in their communities. This includes being members of local clubs, volunteering, employment, attending places of worship and joining community organizations. Our dedicated associates support each person in achieving their goals and dreams in a caring, encouraging environment. By treating each person with dignity and respect, our associates form a close bond with the members of the house, which creates a family atmosphere and transforms the house into a home.

Residential Respite Service

The Arc Allegany-Steuben’s site-based Residential Respite Service is offered at the Oaklawn residence in Bath and the VanScoter Street residence in Hornell. Respite care involves short term or temporary care of a few hours or weeks and is designed to provide relief to the regular caregiver, who is usually a family member.

Residential respite provides the opportunity for a person to:

  • Socialize and enjoy activities with others in a certified residential home
  • Increase independence and confidence
  • Learn more about our organization
  • Maintain strong relationships with their caregivers
  • Enjoy activities in the community, such as trips to the bowling alley, malls, movie theaters, zoos and more
  • Stay in a safe, secure, and friendly environment
